When Should I Book Newborn Photos?

Book Early

Your list for preparing for a new baby is long! This is why the earlier you book your newborn photography session, the better. Having a photographer picked out as early as possible and a date planned for will be one less thing on your list of things to do and will ensure that you have a good experience with the photographer that is right for you! I recommend that clients book their newborn session with me at least 2-3 months before their due date. This will insure that you get your preferred date (how old should baby be you ask? You can read that next, here!), allows me to prepare for your special day, and helps you feel relaxed and prepared for your session.

What are the Benefits of Booking Early?

Booking your newborn portraits early has so many advantages. First, it is one thing off of your list! Trying to scramble and find a newborn photographer after baby is born will leave you frazzled and you may not get the professional service you deserve or the date you would like. Second, it is beneficial to take your time when finding a newborn photographer! This is a very special and intimate experience for you and your family. You want to find a photographer that you trust, that you can connect with, and that you will be comfortable working with. This is why I have a pre-session zoom consultation with every client after they book. During your pre-session consultation, we will get to know each other while answering all of your questions, begin your styling, and select your date. After this call, you will feel reassured that you made the perfect choice nd confident that every detail will be taken care of! You will then receive my Newborn Session Prep guide that you can refer to before session day. The guide has all of the information you need for the perfect photo shoot - from styling , to how to prepare baby for session day, and even details for how to prepare big brother and sister!

Booking early also has financial benefits for you and your family. Your newborn photos are an investment. An investment not only in a photo shoot, but in your memories. Something so valuable needs time and care and you want to insure the right fit. I want every family to have the best experience with me and I respect the investment you are making. This is why my payment structure allows you pay in two increments. Your booking retainer fee is due when booking to secure your date and then your remaining balance is due after your session. You will also receive a link to available print products so that you can feel prepared for what print products are available to you!

Booking Early Also Helps Your Photographer

I take a great deal and time preparing for each and every session. From preparing dresses and outfits for you from my client wardrobe, to managing my studio calendar, to getting special gifts ready for each family, there are many details that we take care of to make your session the best.

What if Baby Arrives Early or Late?

This is another reason booking early is important! As you will soon learn, or as parents with multiple children already know, baby rules the show and we have to accommodate! I always allow for flexibility in my calendar to account for a client needing to reschedule their date to either an earlier or later time. The booking process works like this: 1) You specify your due date on your booking form. 2) During your pre-session consultation we select a date approximately two weeks after your due date, or a little later if you think you will need more time to acclimate at home as a family (most sessions take place when baby is between 2-4 weeks old). 3) After baby arrives, you will send me a text or email to confirm your date, or request a change. We then select a date that works best for both of us.
