My Minneapolis Studio Styling Guide

Welcome!

This styling guide contains all of the information you need to feel ready for your upcoming studio session. Whether you have a newborn session with your first little one, are celebrating your pregnancy, or are spending time with all of your rambunctious little ones, this guide will show you all of the amenities you have access to by booking with me! I can’t wait to help you capture your vision.

How does styling work?

30 Days Before Your Session: You will receive a link to this page, along with links to my women’s client closet and children’s client closet if you have little ones. Take your time looking through and be sure to save the options you are interested in! You may also opt to have outfits chosen for you, by simply responding to the email with your sizes and color preferences.

Secure Your Outfits: Once you have chosen your outfits, be sure to let me know what you are interested in at least two weeks before your session date and they will be awaiting your arrival at the studio.

My studio is located on a quiet street in Northeast Minneapolis. I use all natural light, which is easy to do in a space like this because of the huge, gorgeous windows! I set up my space differently every time, using different chairs, rugs, wall hangings, etc. Each item I have out is neutral and will not distract from you and your family! Instead, they will enhance your images and make you feel comfortable.

What Should My Husband Wear?

When in doubt, follow my curated men’s styling page!

Do…

  • Rusts, sage greens, slate blues, khakis, chocolate browns, ivories will all look amazing in the studio. Our men’s guide, linked above, will show you perfect combinations.

  • While long sleeves can look classic, especially in the winter, opting for shorter sleeves can result in sweet pictures of baby in dad’s arms that you and your kids will treasure.

Avoid…

  • Avoid very dark colors, like navy blues and blacks. While we might like the way these colors look in our day to day life, they do not photograph well in my style and will make your images look less cohesive! If you’re coming to the studio for a newborn shoot, these colors can also create too much contrast that doesn’t compliment baby’s skin as well!

  • No dark jeans!!! Denim can photograph very dark, adding a level of contrast that takes away from the other important aspects of your images. Opt for earth toned khakis or a similar pant!

Where to Shop

  • Places like Banana Republic, Gap, and Mango are all good places to start! Our men’s guide highlights our favorite picks from these stores.

  • I am always here to help! If you are having trouble choosing between pieces or don’t know where to start, reach out! I want to help you be as happy with your images as possible, and that starts with being happy with what you’re wearing!

What About Baby?

I have a huge collection of wraps, outfits, bonnets, and headbands for your newest addition to your family! We will typically layer baby up at the end of your session in a little outfit and some wraps to get them comfortable and sleepy. As the session goes on, we’ll take off some layers to capture details like their hands, toes, and chubby legs!
