Why You Should Book Your Minneapolis Newborn Photography Session Early — Despite Your Fears
When planning for a new baby, especially your first one, you probably have a long check-list of all the things to do before baby comes! If you have been thinking about newborn photos, I want to encourage you to book before baby arrives, not after. But if you’re like many parents-to-be, you might think, How can I commit to a date before I even meet my baby? What if something happens? What if I don’t feel well or baby comes early or late? I hear you. Those thoughts are so normal. But as someone who is a Minneapolis photographer specializing in newborn photography, I can tell you booking your session before your baby arrives is one of the best gifts you can give your growing family — and it actually makes life easier once your little one is here.
Why Book Your Minneapolis Newborn Photography Session Early?
The best newborn photography happens when your baby is 2-4 weeks old— that sweet spot when they’re still sleepy, curled up, and brand new to the world. Babies change so quickly, and before you know it, that tiny “just born” look will be gone. Early booking ensures you don’t miss it.
My Calendar Fills Quickly, But Allows for Flexibility in Case we Need to Move Your Date!
The Twin Cities is a busy place for new families, and prime newborn spots book up fast. Securing your Minneapolis newborn photography session ahead of time guarantees you have a place on my calendar during that precious window. Baby rules the show and because of that, newborn photographers have to be flexible. I fully expect that a baby could come early or late, and I allow for that flexibility on my calendar. My calendar is sectioned off with newborn session bookings every month that have some space in between, so, if one of those sessions needs to be moved, we can do it easily. Booking early, allows you a place in one of those spots!
The process works like this:
fill out your Session Booking Form now,
then we will have a pre-session zoom call in order to answer all of your questions and select your date,
when baby arrives or if you know baby will be late, you will text me to confirm the date we have chosen or if we need to pick a new date.
Booking Ahead Can Be Scary, But I Don’t Want You to Worry
Having a baby can often feel uncertain. As parents, it is normal to have worries about “what might happen”. There are so many unknowns, and sometimes, fears, that can pop up in our minds. This can make some parents uncomfortable with the idea of booking a session early and paying a session deposit or fee. I tell my clients that if something serious were to ever happen and you cannot have your session, all fees are refundable.
Booking Ahead Means Less Stress for You
Those first days after birth will be a beautiful blur of feedings, naps, and adjusting to life together. The last thing you’ll want to do is research photographers and figure out schedules. When your session is booked early, all you have to do is text me “Baby’s here!” in order to confirm your reserved booking date or in order to request a new date! If we have to, we make any necessary adjustments and then I take care of all the details from what you will wear to everything needed for baby. Common Worries (and Why You Don’t Need Them)
“What if my baby comes early or late?”
I only take a limited number of Minneapolis newborn photography sessions each week, which means I can adjust your date as needed. Whether baby arrives early, late, or right on time — we’ll make it work.
“What if I feel tired or overwhelmed?”
As a mom of three grown daughters, I approach each session with experience and an empathetic heart!Your session will be relaxed, slow-paced, and centered on your love for your baby. Your newborn session will be one of the first times you will be leaving your home after baby is born. When you enter the studio, you will be greeted with soothing music, tea or coffee, and then invited to try a dress from those you selected after your booking phone consultation. If you would like to have your make-up done, that is an available choice for you when you book, so that you can fee a bit pampered. If you need time to feed baby, we take a break. Baby leads the way throughout the session and we take our time. It is a peaceful and relaxing experience.
“What if my baby is fussy?”
Most of my Minneapolis newborn photography sessions happen in my studio, where everything is prepared for you — soft lighting, cozy wraps, and beautiful props. The atmosphere is designed to make baby comfortable and for parents to relax. However, sometimes babies are fussy and that is totally normal and expected! You will have time to feed baby, change a diaper, and soothe baby. Bring anything you need from home, from bottles to pacifiers, I want you to feel at home and to take your time. I will capture all the moments. Some moms like to have images of breastfeeding baby while others want images lying next to them, others like to walk, sway, or sing with them. This is your time to just be a mom and have this fleeting time preserved in time!
Peace of Mind Is Worth It
Booking your newborn photography session before your baby arrives gives you peace of mind. You can check it off your list knowing your spot is secured, and you’ll have timeless images to remember your baby’s first days. When you look back at those tiny fingers, curled toes, and sleepy smiles years from now, you’ll be so glad you made the decision early — despite your fears.
