When Should I Book My Minneapolis Newborn Photographer If I'm Due This Fall?

If you live in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and you're expecting a baby this Fall, you are probably taking time this summer to sit back and create your to-do list. While you sit back and think about your hospital bag, designing a dreamy nursery, or how you will install a car seat properly, don’t forget to also think about booking your Newborn Photographer! If you are thinking, "I'm not even sure of my exact date yet — is it too early to book?" The short answer is no. In fact, it's exactly the right time! As a newborn photographer who serves families across the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area, my fall calendar fills up quickly with requests for outdoor family photos. This makes it even more important to book your newborn session early so that you are guaranteed a spot on your photographer’s busy fall calendar!

Should I Book a Newborn Session Before Baby Arrives?

Yes! You should book as early as the second trimester so that you are guaranteed the best date for your session relative to baby’s age, to insure that your newborn photographer has availability, and so that you don’t have to scramble to find a photographer when you are tired and adjusting to baby’s arrival. I want you to have a stress free newborn session experience. After you book in advance, you will receive a guaranteed placeholder on my calendar for the perfect time for your session. The ideal window for newborn pictures is when baby is 2 to 4 weeks old, so being able to have your session within that time frame means you need to get on your photographer’s calendar in advance! Although baby’s arrival can be unpredictable (they can come early, or late, or maybe their arrival had complications), you still need to book in advance to guarantee a place on a photographer’s schedule. I offer my clients a placeholder on my calendar which is a window of time available for each newborn client so that if we have to make calendar adjustments, they can be made easily within that time-frame. After baby arrives, clients text me to confirm the date we pre-selected, or request a change. I can then easily shift the date to a time that works better!

Booking in advance is also important because it allows you to build a relationship with your photographer before your session. After my clients complete their Booking Form, they have a pre-session consultation with me. We will hop on a Zoom call to answer your questions, talk about your vision for your images, and go over styling — so by the time your due date rolls around, the only thing left to do is wait for baby and let me know when they've made their debut. Then on session day, you simply show up and I have everything take care of for you: dresses and outfits and wraps for baby will be ready upon your arrival, snacks and music will be playing in my natural light studio, and hair and make-up are available for a little pampering upon request!

What is the Best Age for Baby for Newborn Pictures?

There's no "perfect" age for newborn photos. I don't have a strict cutoff. While most sessions happen in that 2-4 week range, I've photographed babies older than that too. Your session is baby-led, always. Sessions run about 1.5 to 2 hours, and we never rush. If baby needs to eat, we pause. If baby's fussy, we slow down. As a mom of three, I promise you — fussy moments are expected, not a problem, and sometimes the most beautiful photos happen in the middle of a feeding or a sleepy meltdown.

‍What Should I Wear for Newborn Pictures?

As one of the best Newborn Photographers in the Twin Cities, it is my goal to provide my clients with an amazing client experience. This includes taking care of all the details so that families can simply walk into their session and have a stress-free and relaxing time while they love on their new baby! Every session includes styling for your entire family plus access to my client wardrobe for you and your little ones, plus handmade newborn wraps and clothing for baby.

Do You Include Siblings or Pets in Your Newborn Sessions?

Yes! I am a Minneapolis Newborn Photographer that includes, siblings, pets, and even other family members like Grandma and Grandpa! Your newborn session is meant to reflect your family’s story and siblings and pets are part of the story, too. If you have older kids or a fur-baby, they're more than welcome. Your session will include beautiful images of baby alone as well as the family members that love them!

Do You Offer a Maternity-Newborn Session Package?

If you're due this fall, you may still have time to capture your pregnancy as well. I offer a petite maternity session as an add-onto any newborn booking at a discounted rate — so you can document the whole journey, from the bump to those first sleepy newborn days, without booking two separate full sessions.
